At the end of September 2011, I reported to Direct Line that I had been involved in an accident the day before when a lorry had driven into the rear of my car while I was stationary. Liability for any damage is therefore the responsibility of the lorry driver and his insurers.

Although I reported this within 24 hours of the incident, I discovered in the middle of January that no progress had been made, and the lorry driver’s insurer advised me that it had not received any communication from Direct Line.

In the meantime, Direct Line is proposing to raise my annual car insurance premium, which is due for renewal, from £1,108 to £1,499. I was told I would be reimbursed for the additional premium if, and when, the other party accepts liability, in addition to my no-claims bonus being reinstated. <

The Nonprofit Car Care Council (CCC) recently recommended drivers have their cars battery checked before winter weather sets in to avoid being stranded in cold, poor conditions. The CCC noted all batteries eventually need replacement, even if it is an infrequent requirement. Like most maintenance needs, the exact time it will become pressing cannot be predicted, so wise motorists may want to have this important vehicle component checked now.

This may be especially true for those who expect to drive a significant distance home for the holidays, or otherwise take lengthy trips. Winter can be hard on batteries because the cold thickens engine oil, forcing the battery to work harder in order to start a vehicle.

Common Battery Problems

According to the CCC, most batteries which develop problems do so because of overcharging or excessive heat.

Advertising is designed to get our attention by any means necessary. And sometimes those means can rub some people the wrong way…even if they didn’t intend to.

The ad, made up almost entirely of clips offering tribute to cheesy action and horror movies, ruffled feathers because people thought it was too violent, featuring as it did shooting, stabbings, and people getting karate chopped in the neck. These people also lack a sense of humor.

#4) Audi’s Green Police

Unfortunately, we live in a world where people don’t understand satire, and controversy erupted among people who genuinely thought Audi was advocating for people who use incandescent lightbulbs to get beaten and hauled off to jail like common criminals.
