NEW YORK — Criminals seem to have a thing for big vehicles. The Cadillac Escalade remains the car most likely to be stolen, according to new data from the Highway Loss Data Institute.

This is the fourth year in a row the Escalade has topped this list. The rankings for most stolen cars are based on auto insurance claims data from 2008 and 2009.

Of the top 10 vehicles with the highest theft frequency, according to the HLDI, eight are large General Motors  or Ford  trucks or SUVs. T Read more…

The tired and fatigue drivers are unable to concentrate on road thereby increasing the chances of meeting an accident. According to a recent report of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents the driver’s fatigue is connected with the accidents whether minor, serious or fatal. The report carries the information guide regarding the tiredness levels among drivers, its contribution to road accident and prevention measures.

The factsheet also revealed that the young males, company car drivers, truck drivers and shift workers are more likely to fall asleep while driving on long journeys. During the long journeys if the driver is tired then the risk of sleep related accidents is quite high. I recently interviewed a new client who was being tested at U of M hospital for post-traumatic Parkinson’s and seizures following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a truck accident.  The client is from Marquette, Michigan, and he has been driving all the way to U of M, as well as to MIND – the Michigan Institute for Neurological Disorders – following his injuries.

As motorists in some parts of the country prepare to claim back parking fines illegally issued by certain councils in the UK, the true cost of falling foul of traffic regulations was highlighted by figures revealed by the freedom of information act.

Tip of the iceberg

A motorist from Richmond in London famously won his appeal against a parking ticket last week and the judgement by the Traffic Penalty Tribunal means that millions of pounds will have to be paid back by dozens of councils across the country, however, the amount paid back will only be the tip of an iceberg that is made up of over 4 million parking fines. With each ticket averaging around £50 it is not hard to see how much of a cash cow motorists are to the local councils across the UK.
